Brain Dead in Denver

9:00 pm PST

We’ve just finished watching the first two periods of the Vancouver - Colorado game. The team is obviously fortunate to have the 2-1 lead and we’ve just seen Alex Auld play probably his best period ever. Good stuff.

On the other side of the equation, while enjoying that vigilant Todd Bertuzzi Booing (we wouldn’t expect anything less in Colorado), we were still appalled to hear the huge cheers that errupted when Bert was slashed (and injured).

Sure, he wasn’t badly hurt. But let’s just assume that Bertuzzi did get seriously injured in the game - accidentally or otherwise - does this crowd cheer as he’s taken off on a stretcher?

You can bet on it. (Classy stuff, Denver. Classy.)

Punks.

More awesome stuff from Denver. A couple of idiot Avs fans throw an item over the glass at Bertuzzi mid-way through the 3rd period. After much debate, arena officials decline to eject the fans, and then the rest of the building starts booing Bertuzzi again. (Because, you know, it’s really his fault that they’re acting like such total freaking morons.)

Now it’s overtime. We’d pay BIG money to see Bertuzzi score the overtime winner. But we’ll take what we can get. Go Canucks!

Postscript:

Nicely done Jarkko Ruutu. Beating the Avs in a shootout is just another reason to live. Ruutu should have gotten the 1st Star, but still, well done Alex Auld. What a game.

My Comments on the Fans of Colorado vs. Betuzzie, T

    > Classless Colorado Fans Part I – Hey Colorado get over it! Again the Pepsi Center patrons were relentless in their jeering of Todd Bertuzzi. Fair enough if they want to boo and hold up stupid signs professing some knowledge of Bert’s preference in underwear. But it shows a simple lack of sophistication when they cheer, as they did, for injury to a player regardless of who his is or what the history has been. Late in the second Liles lay a vicious slash on Bertuzzi right in that area between the top of your glove and bottom of the elbow pad. Bert applied ice and sat out the remaining minutes of the second period. The HNIC cameras caught a glimpse of the damage to Bert’s arm. Sure stuff like this happens in hockey every night but when the fans cheer for an injury it just shows their lack of class.

    > Classless Colorado Fans Part II – Mid way through the third period another incident occurred. It wasn’t clear on HNIC what exactly was happening but the Refs tried had to have some overweight woman in a Hinote Jersey ushered out. This morning the reports were that she had thrown a set of nesting dolls at Bertuzzi. Yes indeed, I know rinks around the league are filled with rabid fans clutching their Russian nesting dolls just hoping for the opportunity to toss them at the opposition’s perceived villain. Grow up Colorado!

I always said that Auld was a good enough goalie to use in Vancouver, and CERTAINLY better than cloutier! I really hope he’s gone for the year. I’m already shuddering at him trying to return in time to blow the first round. Or for hte nucks to bring in Thibeault or something. Auld is gold, just let him have the chance!

Auld is great. But he’s had some struggles, although perhaps that’s understandable under the circumstances. He’s playing a lot, and he’s never done that before.

Still, we’ll still be happy to Clouts again.

    Just call us rebels.
