Bye Bye Eddie
Ed Jovanovski is having abdominal surgery, and is therefore off of Team Canada for certain. And according to GM Dave Nonis, gone from the Canucks themselves for possibly six weeks. (Note: Die-hard Canucks fans know that this is Canucks double-speak meaning “minimum 2 months to potentially the rest of his life”)
Just say goodbye to Eddie, Canucks fans. Wish him well, then put him out of your head. Pretend he never existed. The sooner you do that, the less painful it will be.
On the other hand, some of those rookies are rolling along nicely, right?
Okay, okay, we’ll shut up. But let’s take bets: which morning newspaper has the bigger disaster-ready headline on Tuesday morning? The Vancouver Sun or The Province?
Either way, both papers are going to see that Nonis burns for this one. Mark our words, if he doesn’t pull a trade by Friday, our friendly local sports writers will have a full-on nuclear melt-down.

How is it that Vancouver doctors have been looking at him for weeks and couldn’t find anything wrong, yet one trip to doctors in Philly and he’s got an athletic hernia?
If they had simply bit the bullet and had him operated on back in December, he could be ready for both the Olympics and the “deadmarshing” of opposition forwards in the NHL.
Makes you wonder if maybe Naslund was getting the wrong advice from doctors the past two months as well.
We don’t need to trade any players, we just need to find replacement medical staff.

It’s hard to know how soon they could have made the call for surgery on Jovo. A serious decision to make. But regarding Naslund, well, we think you’re onto something there.
He should have been sat out for a couple games a long time ago. Ever since that groin pull he hasn’t been himself. Hopefully this time off he’s getting now (is he playing tonight?) will help heal the problem.
Perhaps you’re right about the medical staff: WTF, guys?!
