STUNNED!
[Updated below.]
Everyone’s stunned and shocked. Personally we’ll go with “surprised”. Sure, we thought Canada would win that game, but we didn’t bet our life on it. (Besides, we used up all our “stunned” on the Sweden-USA women’s game.)
Two things should have prepared us. First: the Swiss choking the Czechs was our first clue this wouldn’t be a walk. Second: As we always say, anything can happen in this kind of tournament.
When Switzerland came out of the gates to start the game by planting Dany Heatley’s face in the glass, earning a 10 minute misconduct, they sent one heck of a clear message. Even while the announcers were busy talking about how Canada outclassed the Swiss in size and power, the Swiss got busy sending one of our best players to the first aid station. Message sent and received.
Finland isn’t going to be any easier. Better that Canada gets a face plant now than later. Moving on.

In other news, a teenage exchange student is moving into our house this afternoon, to live with us for a few months. Guess where she’s from? Freaking Switzerland. And she’s pretty pumped about kicking Canadian ass earlier today.
What did we ever do to deserve this?!?
(Probably shouldn’t have made fun of the Swiss earlier today, huh? Live and learn.)
UPDATE: The Swiss exchange student has arrived - Isabelle - and she came bearing chocolate. All is forgiven, Team Switzerland. Just send us more of that chocolate. Wow. The best drug ever.
