Wowza! The Return of the Cardiac Kids
Like back in the old days, Vancouver comes from behind for a kick-ass win. Canuck fans, if you didn’t pick up pay-per-view tonight, just shoot yourselves now. You missed out.
After Anson Carter made a serious error giving Edmonton the 3-2 lead in the second, Markus Naslund bailed the team out. (Probably the first time all year the #1 line bailed out the #2 line. Great to see.) Fast forward through a sloppy overtime (by the Canucks) and we got to see Naslund, Jarkko Ruutu and Todd Bertuzzi all score on the shoot-out.
There’s much more to say about this game. We’ll link a couple good recaps in this space later. [Update: Canucks-centric recaps here and here.]
On the Edmonton side, Sergei Samsonov sure played well. We liked him so much, we painted him a picture. (In our defense, we were properly inspired by Sacamano at the Battle of Alberta…;-)

*Edmonton Sun quote on Samsonov found here.

Priceless!
What a great win for the Canucks. They seem to be peaking at exactly the right time. If it wasn’t for a complete brain fart by Carter, and the linesman getting in the way of Carney, I don’t think it would have even gone toa shootout. The Return of a Dominant Naslund. It’s what Canuck fans have been craving for six months!
Any remaining support for Dwayne Roloson is fading fast. A third win by the Canucks, and even Sacamano will have to admit that it was a bad move.

I don’t know about “peaking”, but maybe it’ll keep building.
It is nice to see them working hard - and watching it pay off for some big games. And it’s good to see the new D-men finally figuring out their new team. They seemed a little lost in Vancouver for a while.
The Return of the Dominant Naslund? We sure hope so! And besides Naslund, a few players looked better than they have in a while. All around, a couple games which give us some optimism.

I don’t know. Even if Roloson doesn’t win another game, I might still think it was a good move.
Did you guys watch Conklin and Jussi?
I really don’t know what the Sun was thinking. Slicker than whale droppings? Do whales even have “droppings”?

No questions, Roloson is a better goalie than Jacques Lemaire seemed to think he was. And (if I’m remembering correctly) he’s usually been very good against Vancouver. The difference now, maybe, is that he’s playing behind an offensive team, rather than a defensive one. For your sake, hopefully he’ll get into the groove of the run-and-gun west.
Regarding the whale-droppings, apparently that’s what these are. We’ve got no idea, actually, but it sure was a strange ‘compliment’ to throw at Samsonov!

The strange thing is, the Oilers are a defensive team.
They are the second best team in the league in preventing shots (behind only Dallas). Minnie, by contrast, is 18th best.
I really don’t understand why goalies seem to fall apart when they get here. It’s not like the few shots they do face are tough ones, either. It is just bad goals like that Big Bert one last night.
Inexplicable.

Understood. I was thinking more in terms of Goals against. Minnesota is 185 GA and Edmonton 226 GA. Quite a difference for the same number of games. Not to mention Edmonton scores about 10% more goals than the Wild.
Just a thought.
