Canucks Fans Lose the Bet
Now It’s Pay Day!
So we made the dumb bet, lost the dumb bet, and now have to do the dumb-bet-payoff. Damn!
To recap, a week ago VCOE made a bet with Kukla’s Korner, that Vancouver would make the playoffs. (Yes, we all know how THAT turned out.) As penalty for losing this friendly bet, Kukla’s - without mercy! - is forcing us to show two pieces of video footage that no Canucks fan should ever have to experience again: one involves Chris Chelios, the other, Nicklas Lidstrom. Enough said.
Turn up the volume and enjoy, Wings fans! And Canucks fans? Don’t be afraid - there are a few good moments in here for you, too…:-)
with a sense of humor!
Notes:
I’ve never made a “movie” before, and this one is strictly amateur hour. If you’re expecting ESPN Classics, you’ll be disappointed. It’s just for fun.
It’s 2 minutes long, and might take a few moments to load. If it doesn’t play smoothly for you right away (as You Tube videos are known to do), just hit pause and wait for the stream to fully load, watching the progress of the light grey bar beside the play/pause button.
Update Note 5:00 pm PST:
Thank you for all the kind comments, emails and links from other blogs. It is all of you hockey fans that make this less painfull! There have been over 400 viewers of this video in only half a day. You crazy hockey fools!

Awesome, guys. Way to pay up!

Oh those were the days… Chelios and Lidstrom still play the same way but that #44 sure plays a different game today!
Nice job VCOE, you see, Vancouver and Detroit fans can get along.

It was nice to see a little good-natured rivalry and an honest payoff.
Geez, Chelios got creamed!

Classic.

Brings back so many good memories. The Wings were toast until Lidstrom scored, what could have been for the Nucks turned into Stanley Cup for the Wings.

The first half of that video was glorious and man, Chelios got owned by that hit! Way to keep your end of the bet!

it took me a while to work up the courage to watch that chelios crap… but it was worth it for the end.
would have been awesome if that hit was layed on him druing his victory lap. If only marchment or kasparitus had been in the building….

*sigh*
Paul, Christy, Matt and Bill - Payback will be sweet. Next season

I hope you’re enjoying this, Wings fans. It won’t ever happen again!!!
For the record, I actually almost like Chelios for that victory lap. Shows some personality. And I REALLY like that pasting Bertuzzi puts on him later.
Kent (a couple comments up) also makes a good point: If Bertuzzi laid that hit on Chelli during that victory lap… well, that would have been the Canucks classic for all times. (Damn! What could have been…)

I would’ve even found that funny if Cheli had gotten hit during the victory lap.

Next season.
Ahh - A Leafs fan.

I think CHELI would have found it amusing to get hit during the victory lap.

VCOE: You guys have a lot of class! Go Wings!

It’s been a brutal couple of weeks watching the Canucks slow-burn their way out of the playoffs. But, I found this blog to help ease the pain…and, although the initial part of the video (Lidstrom goal) was a bit harsh to take after this rough week, it was good to see you make good on the bet. And…to see Bertuzzi involved in a play in which we didn’t see much of this year.
April 19th, 2006 at 8:27 am
Thanks GZ. That Lidstrom goal was a horror. (Never should have agreed to that!) Which is pretty much why I put that Bertuzzi hit on Chelios in at the end:
Eased the pain - for us and hopefully other Canucks fans!

That’s great except the ending.
Naw… it’s all good. If you can’t take a crack at the expense of your own team, you aren’t a real fan.

I think the cracks we had to take as Canucks fans MORE than made up for a small dig at you crazy Wings fans.
Haven’t we suffered enough?

[…] I haven’t been very optimistic about this team all summer and I’m getting more negative all the time. But a few people have called me on my bitching, so now I’ve made a new bet. (*I really shouldn’t gamble, I know…) […]
