One Dark Night in Vancouver

Last night the entire panel of The Crazy Canucks podcast got together and recorded at the Shark Club in Vancouver after that hell hole game against the Edmonton Oilers. There was drinking involved and frequent incoherent conversation. But we were talking about hockey… sorta. Enjoy!

Related to another project I’m working on for Kukla’s Korner, I attended last night’s game (this was before the alcohol-infused podcast!) with press credentials generously provided by the Vancouver Canucks.

In the course of doing that other story (which should be available next week — I’ll update you) I had the chance to have a brief conversation with Alexandre Burrows after the 4-0 loss to the Oilers.

A big thanks to Burrows — who was very nice to this amateur — and here is a portion of our conversation. Nothing earth-shattering but I thought I’d post some of it just for fun. It was a unique and fun experience for me.;-)

Alanah: How are you handling this scoring drought personally? You’ve had an awful lot of chances over the last 10 games or more.

Alex Burrows: Yeah, and I had a couple of chances once again [tonight] and Roli made a few good saves. I think the last one at the end, I’m pretty sure it was in but I didn’t see the replay… but maybe the camera couldn’t see it though? But I’m pretty sure it was in.

Alanah: How do you deal with it mentally after a game like this?

Alex Burrows: Well it’s tough. You think about it, you lay in bed and you think about it. You’ve got to tell yourself to keep working. It’s been like that all my life… It’s not easy, we’re not always getting the bounces, but if you keep working hard the hockey gods are going to come on your side.

Alanah: You strike me as a player that enjoys playing to the fans and this bad luck might be getting to you in a personal way.

Alex Burrows: Yeah, a little bit for sure. I haven’t scored a goal in 28 games, but you’ve just got to keep working. Like I said, the bounces aren’t going our way right now.

Alanah: Are you happy in Vancouver?

Alex Burrows: Oh yeah, I love it. It’s a great city…

Alanah: Just got to find a way to make it work out?

Alex Burrows: Exactly!

OMG! Official reporting, press credentials?! What is this blog coming to?!

Just kidding - kudos girl! :D

He’s great! He gives the best interviews. And great job, those are some good, non-standard questions.

    But goddamn Roloson. HATE.

Fret not, Cathy. I’m never going to live up to the role of journalist. But the trip behind-the-scenes was great fun. I’ll write all about it as soon as I get a chance. :)

And thanks, Isabella. Mostly, I just tried to avoid embarrassing myself beyond all repair. I think I achieved that, anyway. Oy.

I did see Roloson at one point, too. I gave him your website and your phone number. You might be hearing from his attorneys soon… ;)

You didn’t have to do that! That’s a great early Christmas present. Just let me get out my hockey stick with the rusty nail…

Though I do suspect that instead of lawyers, he’ll just slash the back of my knees and claim goalie interference.
