Jovo: Back in the Building
There are many nice, misty-romantic pieces that can be found out there, remembering Jovo-Cop’s role on the Vancouver blueline. Honestly, I miss him too — I was always a fan.
But before we get too carried away with the remembering the good times, remember this (below) from The Province, July 2, 2006:

That’s $6.5 million bucks a season. For FIVE years. And this season has mostly been a rough ride for him — although picking up recently with a current total 16 points and a +1.
But in Vancouver, I’d guess it would be much worse. In Vigneault’s world of “defense first” I think Jovo would’ve have been completely lost. We’ve gone from Jovo-hockey to Mitchell-hockey. I think that just about says it all.
It’s nice to see one of my favourite D-men back in town though. He was crazy-fun to watch some nights.

Not to mention the…
1. favorable tax brackets in the USA
2. sunshine…lots of it
3. Wayne Gretzky
4. Plenty of golf courses to play in May.
5. did I mention sunshine?
6. Serious, serious shopping malls
7. Spring training.
8. Can drive a convertible Mustang, with top down, 364 days of the year.
9. Cool Howling Wolf logo, vs. the Totem Whale
10. $6.5 mill is what it costs for 5 2nd line players on the Canucks roster today…and who has the better last place record…hmmmmm?

Whatever. At least in Vancouver, you don’t MELT whenever you leave the house…
But yeah, that $6.5 million (x5) was a challenge — and a pointless one with the “new Canucks”. Who needs an offensive defenseman when the guy’s entire mission is to hang out in his own end or the neutral zone all night…?

Sometimes I think we are cut from the same cloth, Alanah.
Jovo missed the equivalent of 1 season in his last 3 seasons with the Canucks and he took a bazillion boneheaded penalties.
Heck, we should almost be booing him tonight. At least, I will when I have 1/2 a bottle of rum in my guts!

Hey now… don’t be booing Jovo. Rum is NOT an excuse! ‘Happy Legs’ gave us some good times over the years.
But those injuries definitely should have affected his value at negotiation time. Phoenix went a bit crazy.

Jovo was indeed the glue that held it all together…
